HEIR TO AIR: CHELSEA B

Chelsea B is a custom crochet apparel designer from  the South-side of Chicago, IL. As a graduate from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), she earned her B.F.A in surface design and textiles with a minor in fashion design. Her passion for art began at a young age. However, it was not until attending SCAD that she discovered her true passion for fiber arts. This is where she combined her tactile skills with her love for color to create unique works of art.

In 2017, she began her own studio practice, Chelsea B Creations (now known as the House of Chelsea B LLC), where she focuses on combining streetwear fashion and the skill of crochet.

Most recently, she designed her first sneaker  (Air Max 90 “NOTRA”) while attending Nike School Chicago during the summer of 2022.  Her work has adorned artists ,such as, Flo Milli in Refinery Magazine’s January 2021 feature, rap artist Baby Tate in the “I AM” music March 2021, singer Lucky Daye in his new music video “Over” September 2021, and most recently graced Vh1’s Ru Paul’s Drag Race All Stars on Monét Exchange.

Chelsea B hopes that she can continues to shift the narrative in the fiber arts and fashion community with her social media influence and continued collaborations.

Art in Motion

We welcomed over 200 students in 2019, our founding year. We accelerate student achievement through our innovative Personalized Learning model, and are committed to closing the opportunity gap by providing access to rich learning experiences that allow students to think and learn deeply.  Our standards-aligned, rigorous middle school to high school model exposes students to real-world projects, self-directed learning, and small group instruction. We will grow one grade level each year, to reach a full seventh through twelfth (7-12) grade model by 2023.

We cultivate a strong learning and working culture, and actively embed artistic, cultural, linguistic, and social emotional learning supports throughout the instructional day. Strong relationships are at the foundation of our model, each student meets with a mentor weekly.
